A truly remarkable woman by the name of Linda Bamford was someone who lived a vibrant, caring & giving, full life, focused on making sure students like you enjoyed as many arts & educational experiences such as this one & many others - as much as possible, as often as possible; she was an inspiration & a wonderful guide & leader to so many in the RDU area & far beyond; she passed away last week & we honor her today. A shout-out of thanks to Jeffrey Adams on Fourth for the great pre-screening party, and thanks so much for RiverRun’s staff & volunteers for being so patient with all of us there, and for all those who just couldn’t stop talking about the film post-screening. What a great 25th anniversary RR festival! We are thrilled to be a part of it. Thanks you so much to the cast & crew who were able to come— and to the over 110 people who made this project possible. At EbzB we have used Theatre to entertain and educate audiences on the topics of History, Literature, World War II, Culture, Science, Aviation, Exploration, Social Justice, and the United States during the 20th Century. We've developed study guides, encouraged post-show audience discussion, and listened to audience reflections as a way to educate ourselves, as well. This medium enriches lives as it creates community, empathy, and spectacle both onstage and offstage. EbzB is honored to be a part of this very rich tradition. Literary greats Richard Wright and Paul Green’s compelling true-to-life partnership received another measure of distinction when the film The Problem of the Hero screened at its Santa Fe Film Festival premiere this past weekend.
We are excited and humbled to inform our friends & supporters that not only was The Problem Of The Hero selected to screen at the 2023 Santa Fe Film Festival, but it is also now a Santa Fe Film Festival Award Winner.
Our congratulations to the entire cast and crew of the film.
On February 17th the audience's response in Santa Fe, New Mexico affirmed the power of The Problem Of The Hero. On behalf of the project, we engaged in a post-screening discussion answering questions, listening to revelations, and being humbled with compliments. An interview earlier that morning with Honey Harris on KBAC Radio generated an excited audience for the film.
Though the Santa Fe Film Festival has yet to complete its events this year, we are so pleased to have been recognized along with several other fine films and their awards.

The Problem Of The Hero - Premieres at Santa Fe Film Festival on February 17, 2023.
WhyNot Theatricals and EbzB productions, in association with AYJ Productions and Gravel Films. announce our new feature film, The Problem Of The Hero.
The Problem Of The Hero is an official selection of the Santa Fe Film Festival and will debut there on February 17, 2023, @ 4 p.m. at the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The film is based on EbzB Productions' live stage performance of Native by Ian Finley.
In 1940, controversial author Richard Wright turns to Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green to help adapt his best-selling book, Native Son, into a Broadway play. An unlikely friendship between the two develops. They debate and collaborate for several weeks over the summer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, laboring night and day through extreme heat, to adapt the story of Bigger Thomas, a young black man who accidentally but brutally kills a white woman in her bedroom.
Now it is March 1941, and the author and playwright are in New York at the St. James Theatre on the eve of opening night. A difference of opinion over a single page of the script threatens an impasse. As rehearsal continues around them, led by the mercurial Orson Welles, the resulting argument - delving into race, class, politics, and personal story - seems destined to dissolve their friendship.
Pre-Production for The Problem Of The Hero began in June 2019 in Raleigh and Greensboro, North Carolina. Principal photography started in December 2019 & January 2020 in Greensboro, NC at the Carolina Theater. In February 2020 additional exteriors in Durham, NC, and other North Carolina locations took place as strict Covid19 procedures were observed to protect the cast and crew.* Post Production took place from September 2020 - November 2022, again with Covid19 interruptions delaying the original timeline of the project.
The Problem Of The Hero receives its festival premiere at the Santa Fe Film Festival in February 2023. Distribution is anticipated in 2023 and beyond. The film is directed by Shaun Dozier, with Steve Milligan serving as Director of Photography. Paul Green is played by David zum Brunnen. J. Mardrice Henderson stars as Richard Wright.
